Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and Onlays are indirect dental restorations that are usually fabricated by a dental lab in order to replace missing tooth structure. These restorations are like puzzle pieces of tooth structure that get bonded or cemented into place to fill in the missing areas. They are utilised when the amount of missing tooth structure is too large to place a simple filling, but there is enough tooth structure left to avoid having a crown. The tooth coloured inlays and onlays can look so natural that it is often difficult to find where the restoration ends and the tooth structure begins.

Crowns and Bridges

Crowns (also referred to as caps) are dental restorations that surrounds the prepared tooth structure to help strengthen weakened teeth that have been cracked, broken or decayed. We also use crowns to help restore a tooth’s shape and improve chewing functions, speech and aesthetics. These crowns are made from various types of materials which get bonded or cemented into place.
Crowns can be made from porcelain, metal, or a combination of both. There are new materials now that are very strong that do not contain any metals such as Zirconia and Procera crowns.
Bridges are dental restorations designed to replace the areas where there are one or more missing teeth. Bridges can be made to rest on natural teeth, or on implants, and are usually crowns that are splinted together. The supporting teeth are prepared in the same manner as a crowns.
Reasons for having a bridge include: maintaining your appearance, your dental health, and proper function of your mouth. The loss of a back tooth can cause your cheeks to sink in as you get older. The adjacent teeth can drift and tilt, causing tooth decay, spacing, gum problems. Missing teeth can affect the way you chew, causing an additional strain on your jaw and TMJ.
